Small is beautiful
A blantant rehash of Marc Eisenstadt’s blog yesterday but I can’t resist it. I think I am in love… with a machine … which is a tad worrying… In one of our research meetings today we were exploring how the Asus minibook machine might be used in some of our research looking at learning in different contexts and across different boundaries. Marc says it much better than I can in terms of functionality, speed etc. But I just have to say I think this is near to the mobile device we have been waiting for and can see a mega rush for it in the run up to that ‘thing on the 25th Dec who’s name I won’t mention’. We still have to explore a number of things about it - battery life and robustness in the field being key, but the initial evaluation done by the guys in KMI looks promising. Pic is again Mark Gaved (in danger of becoming a paid model for this I think) and Canan Blake taken during our meeting.

I agree these seem rather interesting machines - and they run Linux so could help expand the Open Source world. Now if we can get ourselves issued with one of these each for our move to the new building then we might be able to do away with the noise and space used by a load of desktop machines!

[…] new Asus MiniBook. It’s one thing talking about how these things might be used by kids in an esoteric ‘acedemic meeting’ but it’s just not the same as seeing the thing in action with the real users. Reaction from […]
